Mullein for Wildfire Smoke Relief
Mullein from my herb garden. Feels like the most beautiful velvet.
This past week, our little island experienced wildfire smoke.
My daughter, who is fully pregnant, awoke with sore lungs. Smoke is particularly hard on the elderly, the young, and pregnant folks.
It is a lung tonic that helps reduce inflammation and irritation arising from asthma, bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Mullein leaf helps to clear the lungs which is super helpful for coughs, lung infections, and influenza.
I immediately went outside and harvested some leaves from this plant ally and brewed an infusion.
This plant is not to be confused with foxglove. They look VERY similar, only foxglove is poisonous.
Mullein leaf is easily sourced in health food stores as a herb or in tea bags.
To make an infusion, add 4 tsp of leaf (fresh or dried) to one cup of boiling water. Steep covered for 10 minutes, then strain into your favourite mug.
Take some deep breaths and send gratitude for this most supportive herb that helps us BREATHE…
