My daily morning smoothie
While away, I met some awesome people who travelled through Morocco with us. We got to chatting one day over lunch, and I shared how much my belly was missing my morning smoothie. I cannot tell you how grateful I was yesterday, my first morning home, to whirl this up in the blender and feed it to my very relieved belly.
Moroccan breakfast mainly consists of a variety of breads (we eat gluten-free because my partner and our middle daughter are both celiac), olives (yum), cheese (a little early for my digestive system these days), sweet yogurt, and usually a sweet cake.
My belly did not know what hit it with all the bread and sweets first thing. By the second week, my smoothie was visiting me in my dreams.
Since it has been on my mind and most certainly in my mug right this moment as I type, I wanted to share what goes into it.
Into my blender, I begin with a handful of frozen berries, about a cup of Greek yogurt, a cup of beans (black, garbanzo, or cannellini are my go-to), a handful of greens, a scoop of protein powder, and a mix of flax, chia, and hemp seeds. I add liquid in the form of either water, coconut water, or non-dairy milk.
There are no exact measurements, and I improvise greatly based on what is in the garden for greens and what I have on hand.
Whirl it all up in a blender, pour into your fave glass, then listen carefully and hear your digestive system and hormones whisper, “thank you, dear one…”
There is enough to share or put into a mason jar ready to go for the next morning. Enjoy! I know I am right now;)
